Lola McDonald Dockery

Lola McDonald Dockery, age 100, of Pompano Beach, Florida formerly of Murphy, NC died Wednesday, May 14, 2008 in Florida. She was a native of Cherokee County, NC, but had lived in Pompano Beach Florida since the 1970's. She operated the Henry House for several years, enjoyed cooking, sewing and reading. She was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Murphy, NC. She was the daughter of the late Noah and Dovie Frick McDonald. Lola was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon E. Dockery; two brothers, Leonard and Olen McDonald and two sisters, Beatrice Kephart and Bessie Johnson. She is survived by four daughters, Eulane and her husband, Harold Rogers of Cary, NC, Ann and her husband, Joseph Cole of Plantation, FL, Betty and her husband, Preston Henn of Hillsboro, FLand Nettie Turbyfill of Boco Raton, FL; two brothers, Fred McDonald and his wife, Jean of Murphy, NC and John "JD" McDonald of Cary, NC; two sisters, Willa Mae Dockery of Murphy, NC and Nettie Green of Sylva, NC; sister-in-law, Wanda McDonald; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, one greatgreat grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were at 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 16, 2008 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC. The Rev. Kenneth Kephart will officiate. Interment was held in the Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery in Murphy, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 16, 2008 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy, NC. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made In Memory of Lola McDonald Dockery to the Ebenezer Baptist Church Building Fund, 1604 Ebenezer Road, Murphy, NC 28906 or to the Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 5233 Hanging Dog Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
