Canner gauge testing offered by NC Cooperative Extension Home Canning season is fast approaching and that means it is time to get your home pressure canner gauge tested. The North Carolina Cooperative Extension offers dial-gauge pressure canner testing free of charge. Testing dates for this summer are: Monday, June 9, 10 a.m. Noon and Friday, July 18, 1-3 p.m. Bring your pressure canner lid ONLY to the Clay County Extension OfficeRoom # 108 Clay County Community Services Building, during the times listed. If these times are not good for you, feel free to bring your lid prior to the testing dates. Your lid will be tested at the specified times and you may pick it up at your convenience. We can only test dial gauges so if your canner has a weighed gauge, they do not need to be tested. We also have a food preservation handouts available, FREE of charge. Pam Staton, Extension Agent, will be available to answer any questions you may have on canning, freezing, pickling, jelly making and drying.
Testing pressure canner dial gauges each year insures that the food you so carefully preserve for you and your family, has been processed at the correct temperature to be safe and healthy. If you have food preservation questions throughout the year don't hesitate to call, 389-6305.
