Festival contest winners celebrate

The Membership Recruitment Contest for the Clay County Historical & Arts Council ended with a flurry of last minute activity at Festival on the Square.

Steve Zimmerman has been awarded the Grand Prize for adding 14 new members to CCHAC during the contest period between April 15 and July 13. Steve and Barbara will spend two nights at Harrah's. The trip will include dinner for two at the sumptuous Sycamore's on the Creek. The package is valued at approximately $500.00.

The remaining 10 prizes were awarded by drawing tickets. All members received a ticket when dues were paid, and another ticket for each new member they referred. In this way, the chances of winning were increased by diligent effort. The drawings were held during Sunday afternoon's entertainment. Rob Tiger pulled the tickets from the bin, and announced the winners. Because CCHAC has members as far south as Florida, and as far away as Washington State, winners did not have to be present. Lucky recipients are from Clay County unless otherwise noted.

James and Brenda Mull, of Woodstock, GA, won the pair of presentation goblets from the Ringling Art School's Medieval Faire; Marc Westergard of St. Petersburg, Florida, won the custom knife by Hal Farren, Susan Wyman received the glass art "Roosters" by M.V. Weil; Kendra and Robert Martin chose the oil painting by Carolyn Duckworth; Mary Zell Saltz Manro, of Mercer Island, WA, will receive the handcrafted sterling earrings from Hiawassee Antique Mall; Tallulah Kenyon picked the candle holder by David Goldhagen; Dina Hendrix will have a new glass art piece "Goldfish" by M.V. Weil; Daisy Mossler garnered the hand blown art glass vase; Shelagh Whitney, who also placed second in the contest with 8 new members, has won the limited edition print "Winter Grazing" by Elly Hobgood, and Reba Beck will cherish the hand stitched quilt donated by Hiawassee Antique Mall.

CCHAC President Sara Smith said, "The Council congratulates all of the winners. We would especially like to thank our prize donors for their support. Our membership has grown to 119 members through this successful effort, and the growth continues. If you would like to become a part of our group, please call the museum at 389-6814, and we will send you a copy of our latest newsletter along with membership information."
