Eight hired for coming school year
High school vice principal position unfilled

Penland
A decision was reached to hire eight new employees, Clay County Schools Superintendent Scott Penland said Friday, July 19.

Only one of the new employees, Ashley Snowden, will be employed in the high school. Snowden will take the place of retiring art teacher Reba Beck.

Penland said two new teachers had been hired in the elementary school: Lauren Rogers and Yvette McQuade. He also said Dianne Hedden had been employed as the elementary school secretary.

Cynthia Long, April Davenport, Sherry Rogers and Erin Wells were hired as teacher assistants, Penland said.

School board members met for a closed session to discuss personnel at the Hayesville Family Restaurant Thursday morning.

Decisions on a new physical education teacher, athletic director and assistant principal for Hayesville High School were not resolved at the meeting.

Dee Walsh, assistant football coach and P.E. teacher, resigned in June to take a job with Graham County Schools. Steve Cottrell, assistant principal and athletic director, is set to retire Aug. 1.

Penland is making recommendations for replacements, although the positions must be approved by the school board.

The board will be in session again on either July 28 or 31 to resolve the remaining positions, Penland said.
