Top band to play in concert series On July 26, 2008, the Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center will welcome Western North Carolina's own, The Freight Hoppers The band formed in 1992 and took a brief hiatus in 2002; they are back and ready to once again shake the Americana scene. The band has been heavily praised around the world for their rich Old Time and Americana sound. Two of their albums, "Where'd you Come From, Where'd you go?" (1996) and "Waiting on the Gravy Train" (1998), reached the Top 20 of the Billboard's Americana music category. The band has completed many international tours and have been featured on Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion." The Freight Hoppers are currently working on a new album. Enhance your authentic Appalachian experience with a traditional mountain dinner prior to the 7:30 concert, served family style. Seatings are at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.; reservations are required. Cost, not including tax and gratuity: adults, $12; students, $9; children under 6, $6. Desert is $2.50 per person. The concert will begin at 7:30 and take place on the center's historic "grand ole stage." Tickets: adults, $10; students (K-12), $2; children under 6, free. Season tickets are $50. The summer concert series is held every Saturday evening through Labor Day weekend (August 30, 2008).
