A musical journey through Europe
"Brasstown Concert Association is unique in bringing classical and traditional concerts to the mountains of far-western North Carolina. The concerts feature artists of international acclaim, and the performance by Muses' Delight continues our tradition of presenting a wide variety of music to local audiences", says Bob Grove, BCA's vice president. The trio of musicians comprising Muses' Delight is presently based in North Carolina. Although all three have traveled broadly and crossed paths earlier in their careers, they consider themselves fortunate to live and work in North Carolina. Their collective experience includes extensive time with numerous Baroque ensembles both in Europe and in the United States. The Baroque period in music roughly covers the years from 1600 to 1750 and is a distinctive style, characterized by use of the basso continuo as well as by its emphasis on contrast of texture, volume and tempo. The three musicians; Gesa Kordes, violin; Gail Ann Schroeder, viola da gamba and Barbara Weiss, harpsichord, are dedicated to performing this music authentically on period instruments. Their lively and expressive interpretation offers modern audiences a bridge to a genuine encounter with music from years ago. This concert is supported in part by The North Carolina Arts Council, an agency funded by the State of North Carolina and the National Endowments for the Arts.
Muses' Delight will perform in the Keith House at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown. No reservations are required and seating is by general admission. Tickets for the event may be purchased at the door on Sunday October 19; $14 for adults and $7 for students. For information call 828 389 2595 or email Brasstownconcert@gmail. com
