Stars shine at Peacock Playhouse gala
The Gala, which includes dinner and entertainment, is sponsored by the Lilith Lidseen Performing Arts Association, Inc. to kick off a major four-year fundraiser to purchase and renovate the Peacock Playhouse. Headlining the playbill will be Brian Barrentine, a handsome young baritone whose magnificent voice brought audiences to their feet in the musicals, Sound of Music and Camelot. He will be accompanied on the keyboard by Suzanne Major. A native of Marietta, GA, Barrentine has distinguished himself as a multi-talented performer on the New York stage and on the Nashville music scene. He is currently Director of the Gilmer High School Choral Department, where he teaches a wide range of music appreciation—classical, opera, blues, country, folk, popular and mambo, the latter an African Cuban style. Last year his choral group won first place among 128 high schools in a music competition held at the University of Georgia. Another multi-faceted Licklog favorite is Laurel Adams, a former Hollywood actress, who easily assumes roles of director and performer with equanimity. She and Steven Jones, who has an extensive background in community theatre, will present a dramatic reading of excerpts from Dear Liar. The full production of this entertaining skit was held earlier this year, featuring correspondence between George Bernard Shaw and Mrs. Patrick Campbell, a famous English actress known for her wit and beauty. Dancers Rachel Silver and Bridget Laney will perform an interpretive contemporary piece to the music of the popular song, My Philosophy. Their performance was choreographed by Stephanie Turcotte, owner/ director of the In Motion dance studio. Hailey Saraney will sing I had a Dream from the popular movie, Mama Mia. Anne Merkel and Martin Sachs will play Celtic waltzes, and rounding out the program will be Janice Moore, a widely published poet and storyteller Clay Logan, creator of the Possum Drop. Tickets for the Gala are $25.00 per person, which includes a light buffet and live entertainment throughout the program. Reservation deadline is October 10.
